The OIC Labour Centre welcomes the G20 Leaders’ Declaration issued in Johannesburg under the theme “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability” and commends the G20 for reaffirming that employment is a core driver of economic growth and that decent work must be central to sustainable industrialization, serving as a cornerstone for both productivity and fairness.

Global leaders rightly stressed that the world cannot achieve stability or shared prosperity while inequality, unemployment, underemployment, and widespread informality continue to undermine economic and social systems. The Declaration draws attention to the serious risks these challenges pose—not only to workers’ livelihoods but also to national resilience and global cohesion.

Importantly, the G20 underscores the need to confront gaps in wealth and development, both within countries and across regions. It highlights the pivotal role of strong labour market institutions, equitable wage-setting systems, and universal, adaptable social protection frameworks in reducing disparities, strengthening resilience, and fostering social harmony.

The OIC Labour Centre strongly supports this vision. Decent work—characterized by fair wages, rights at work, safe conditions, opportunities for growth, and robust social protection—is fundamental to inclusive development.
